Camping at Acorn Valley

Well, we finally went camping again this summer! It's been a little too wet and we've been a little to busy too make it out to the campsite this summer. So, we picked the most humid weekend to go camping and made a trip up to Acorn Valley - just outside Des Moines.

We had Brian & Marcia Sheriff, Rob & Lisa Rubsam, Michael & Michelle Miesen, and us with all the kids. No, the ladies and the youngest kids didn't camp out with us (except Asha - Rob took both girls! What a champ!)

Every time we go camping, the bar gets a little higher on the manliness scale. A newcomer to our camping trips, Rob brought us to a whole new level! For campfires, we typically burned whatever spare building materials (2x4s) or if Jake can come, we get some small firewood. This time, we had huge tree trunks that Rob proceeded to split with a sledge hammer and an assortment of wedges. The boys had their try at the wood as well. However, they weren't as efficient as Rob in the lumberjack department.

It was a great weekend of fun for the kids and fellowship for the men as we discussed matters from sports to spiritual matters until 2:30 am.

Thanks guys for coming up. I can't wait for the August campout!
