It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since Susan and I were married. So here we are, 3 beautiful children, 3 states from home, and us trying to figure out what kind of conversation we can have with each other when we're not talking about our kids. For this anniversary, I thought we needed a little time away. So...with a lot of help from some family and friends, I'm happy to say, Susan was VERY surprised on August 2!
The day started out normal, I was leaving for work (so she thought), Susan and the kids had bible study, and we were going to go out to Crave resturaunt on Friday night to celebrate the big 10 years. What was REALLY happening was; Gord and Mina left on the 1st (stayed overnight at Dave & Muriel's) and were on their way to Iowa to watch the kids for the weekend. Susan and I were going to San Antonio to check out the basement of the Alamo (if you don't get that reference, you owe it to yourself to rent Pee Wee's Big Adventure). So, here's how the morning went.
I left for "work" a little later than I normally do. I actually went to the grocery store to get groceries for the weekend because we weren't going to be home! Susan and the kids left for bible study at about 9am. I got back home shortly after they left, unpacked the groceries, cleaned the house, and then left before Susan got back from church. Susan was a little confused when she got home to see the house clean (because she didn't do it!) and groceries in the fridge. When I got home with 10 roses, she obviously realized that I didn't go to work!
Then the email from American Airlines came letting Susan know she could check in early. Oops! She aske me, "Are we going to Texas?" I told her that was wierd, and I'll call the airline. I called Mina to see how far out they were - 5 Minutes.
Ok, time to come clean. I told Susan that we are going to Texas. She didn't believe me, I mean, what would we do with the kids? Then Gord & Mina walked in!
